Rider Certification & Accreditation

Your first step onto the velodrome

All riders begin their journey at the Alberta Velodrome with Rider Certification. This structured, four-session program is designed to help participants feel confident, comfortable, and capable riding on the track while building a strong foundation for future development.

Certification introduces riders to the unique environment of the velodrome and focuses on safe progression, clear communication, bike handling, and track etiquette. Whether you’re riding for fitness, strength, fun, or with ambitions to race, this program unlocks everything the track has to offer.

To gain full access to training programs, racing, and advanced development opportunities, riders complete:

  • Certification – Levels 1 & 2

  • Accreditation – Levels 3 & 4

This progression typically requires a minimum of four sessions and ensures all riders share a common understanding of safety, skills, and expectations on the track.

Minimum Participation Requirements

To ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone, participants must:

  • Be able to ride a bicycle confidently and continuously for at least 15 minutes

  • Follow instructions and demonstrate learning through feedback

  • Show steady progress through each level of the program

These standards help create a supportive, predictable riding environment for riders of all abilities.
